Ford F-250

2020 F-250 vs F-350: Performance Specs

Ford F-350Peek under their hoods, and you’ll see the 2020 F-250 and F-350 share the same engine lineups. When it comes to powertrain configurations, though, things are a bit different.

The base Ford F-250 uses a 6.2L V8 engine mated to a TorqShift® 6-speed automatic transmission. In the Ford F-350, you’ll find the same powerhouse paired with a TorqShift® 10-speed automatic transmission. The smooth 10-speed automatic comes standard with all other available engines on both vehicles.

So, what other engines are available? Both trucks offer a 7.3L V8 engine (430 horsepower) and the familiar 6.7L Powerstroke® Turbo Diesel V8 (475 horsepower). Expect a durable performance from both—and choose the latter to maximize your towing power!

Safety on Four Sides: Ford Co-Pilot360™

Whether you’re towing a trailer or simply driving between worksites, the Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 are equipped with everything you need to do so safely. You’ll have Ford Co-Pilot360™ in the passenger seat, with its bevy of driver-assist technologies along for the ride. The suite includes:

  • Auto High-Beam Headlamps
  • Hill Start Assist
  • Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking

Backing up with a trailer can be a bit challenging. Luckily, the driver-assistance suite includes Pro Trailer Backup Assist™, an available feature that makes it as easy as turning a knob. Just rotate the knob in the direction you want to go, and your truck and trailer will synchronize to make it happen!

Changing lanes with a trailer got easier, too, with available BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Trailer Coverage. It will warn you of traffic in your blind spots and alongside the trailer.

Towing Capability

Ford F-350 TowingWe’ve covered the raw power of the 2020 F-250 and F-350—but what does that power look like when applied? The Ford F-250 can tow up to 20,000 pounds conventionally, while the Ford F-350 can tow up to 21,200 pounds conventionally. Master the roads with plenty of muscle!

The advanced capacity of the F-350 is partially due to its available dual rear wheel (DRW) setup. Those two wheels (instead of one) will improve stability as you tow horse trailers or large campers. Although both trucks offer single rear wheel (SRW) options, only the F-350 makes DRW available.

Should I Buy the Ford F-250 or Ford F-350?

We hope shoppers across Hickory, Valdese, and Brookford, North Carolina, found this comparison helpful! The 2020 Ford F-250 and Ford F-350 are heavy-duty hits in the pickup truck segment.

Each has its own niche, and the one you choose will depend on your needs. If you want a closer look and a test drive, too, stop by and see us at Cloninger Ford of Hickory! We’ll get you in the driver’s seat today.
