The Story Behind the Beer at Olde Hickory
You’ll find Olde Hickory Brewery nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains here in Hickory, NC. They got their start back in 1994 with a 7-barrel converted dairy system. From day one, they started accomplishing their goal of making unique traditional ales and lagers available to all over-21 locals.
It wasn’t long before they outgrew that system. So, in 1997, they found a new space: a historic landmark building established more than a century ago in 1880. They began renovating and moved all operations downtown to this facility.
Today, the building houses a 25-barrel Price Schonstrom brew house! All the beers they brew have been brewed only with select grains, robust hops, and cultured yeast with no additives or preservatives.

You don’t get quality beer without meticulous attention throughout the brewing process. Every beer at Old Hickory Brewery starts as fresh water flowing from the granite slopes of the Blue Ridge and ends its journey as a small batch of less than 800 gallons.
Try one of their flagship beers while you’re here. The Hickory Stick Stout is a complex beauty, flavorful and aromatic, but not overly heavy. You’ll taste coffee, dark chocolate, and a mildly sweet caramel—the product of pale and crystal malts.
Meanwhile, their Hefe-weizen German Style Wheat Ale is something to write home about. The classic banana and clove flavors may be exactly what you’re looking for.
