Explorer vs Pilot: Interior Features

Ford Explorer Interior Ford and Honda are known for their attention to detail in design. The 2020 Explorer and Pilot impress in this respect. While both feature attractive and cozy cabins, the Ford SUV has undergone a major redesign for the current model year. By contrast, the Pilot hasn’t seen a full redesign for four years.

The new Ford Explorer really comes alive inside. You’ll love the available Tri-Diamond Perforated Leather Seating Surfaces, available in Ebony or Light Sandstone. The Pilot has similar shades of available leather seats: Gray and (on the Pilot Black Edition) Black.

Comfort reaches new heights in the Explorer, where available Active Motion® front seats offer a dose of extra relaxation. They offer five new massage programs—a feature you won’t find on the Pilot.

Modern Technology for Your Drive

Ford Explorer Technology

From infotainment to driver assistance, the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot offer the technology you need to stay on track. Given the Explorer model’s recent redesign, though, it delivers the essentials (and extras) in a more modern package.

Consider the available touchscreens. While both SUVs offer intuitive systems, the SYNC® 3 system in the Ford is simply more robust. You’ll get a sleek 10.1-inch portrait touchscreen, whose vertical alignment is a true innovation in the segment. The Honda uses a more conventional, 8-inch horizontal screen.

For the first time ever, the Explorer now offers an available fully digital instrument cluster. Customize this 12.3-inch screen to show your most essential information. The Pilot lacks this luxury-level feature.

SUV Performance & Capabilities

Ford Explorer Towing An SUV is only as powerful as the engine under the hood. The 2020 Explorer and Pilot have some potent powertrains available. The 3.5L V6 on the Pilot has long been robust, with 280 horsepower on tap. If you want to max out your power, though, the Explorer model’s 3.0L EcoBoost® V6 kicks out up to 365 horsepower.

The turbocharger on the EcoBoost® engine boosts torque, which enhances towing capacity. The Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds when properly equipped—600 pounds more than the Pilot. Hitch up a small boat or a couple of jet skis for your next adventure!

Another first for the Explorer is rear-wheel drive, a feature that allows sportier design and driving. You’ll enjoy more thrilling excursions behind the wheel.
