Cloninger Ford of Hickory

Sep 4, 2020

You’re exhausted from a long, hard day of honest work. Too tired to cook, you can’t bear the thought of spending your hard-earned money on a drive-thru. Luckily, Hickory NC has plenty of great take-out and delivery options to tantalize the tastebuds and fill the stomach. Here are three of our favorites.

Olde Hickory Tap Room

If you’ve had a long day of work and can’t even think about cooking, you sometimes just want pub food. If you just want to tuck into a comforting, satisfying meal, it doesn’t get much better than Olde Hickory Tap Room. We love to start our meal with Buffalo wings, fried chicken tenders, or mozzarella sticks.

From there, you can’t go wrong with the blackened salmon caesar salad, soup of the day or any of their burgers or sandwiches. If you have a sweet tooth, they’ve got you covered. While they have a “dessert of the day” to keep you on your toes, you can always choose the French Fried Cheese Cake or decadent Tap Room Chocolate Stack. The best part is if the cheesecake is too rich to eat in one sitting, you can put it in the fridge and eat it tomorrow!

Umi

If you’re craving quality Japanese cuisine, there’s no need to drive over an hour to Charlotte. You can find authentic Japanese fare right here in Hickory! Whether you’re feeling hibachi, sushi or both, Umi has something for you to love and crave. Unwind after a stressful day with a cool seaweed salad, miso soup with yellowtail or edamame.

Afterwards, savor a delectable meal of chirashizushi, inarizushi or a couple of rolls. If you’ve never had sushi before, we strongly encourage you to try the California roll (cooked crab and veggies), unagi roll (grilled eel and eel sauce), squid nigiri, smoked salmon nigiri or octopus nigiri. All of these options feature cooked seafood, so you don’t need to worry about the texture of raw fish.

JDs Smokehouse

If you’re craving a comforting meal, but you’re not quite in the mood for pub food, we strongly recommend JDs Smokehouse. We love the brisket plate and the brisket sandwich because of the depth of flavor provided by the 1/4-inch of fat. However, you truly cannot go wrong with any option on this menu. Just be sure to get the fried okra, baked beans, coleslaw and banana pudding. You can’t have barbecue in Hickory without banana pudding.

Work may be stressful, but your drive to pick up dinner doesn’t have to be. Whether you need a new vehicle to tow your boat to Lake Hickory or you want a safer, more comfortable vehicle to make your daily commute more enjoyable, you can find something for you and your family.
